Being a barnacle is not so bad

So The Fox (short for The Silver Fox, formerly known as Mr. Lolly) has been working on our taxes today. After pointing out the obvious (that if I were on my own, I would be living well below the poverty level based on my meager wages) he calculated the refund that he would receive if he were to file singly. While not substantial, it is considerably better than the $800 or so that we usually owe the government at tax time, after including the pittance I receive as a library employee . The Fox then shook his head sadly and intoned:

"There is a barnacle on the hull."

Oh well. As long as I have my Fox, at least I will never have to join that Face book group "I Picked a Major That I Loved and One Day I Will Be Living In a Box."

Lollybiscuit is Snowed In!

When all is said and done, we are supposed to get a total of 9 inches in the A-Squared. If I could locate the camera cord, I would post a picture of the view from my living room window, which I must say is really captivating.

Nonetheless, this is really a sh#**er, because I am feeling a burning urge to go to Target. The state of the economy has dampened my enthusiasm for shopping like nothing else could. Thus,I have not darkened the doorway of said store in at least a month, which has to be some kind of a record for me.

So here I am at the dining room table, listening to Dr. Dog (I am obsessed with Dr. Dog right now!) and fooling around on the computer.

At this time next week, I will be getting ready to catch a plane to Key West, FL. I can't wait to wear flippies again!

I love songs about zombies and two headed dogs.

I just want to say that The Evil One by Roky Erickson and the Aliens is a surprisingly good CD to study to. It actually evokes warm, fuzzy memories of driving around in the white Olds with Mr. Lolly, when our love was young.

I also recommend Your Gonna Miss Me, the documentary about Roky Erickson. You don't even have to be a fan to enjoy that movie- it is one CRAZY story.

It has been a crazy week in Hollywood

First Brad Renfro

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=4139914

and now Heath Ledger.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/22/movies/23cnd-ledger.html?hp

Ok, so I never saw Brokeback Mountain (by the time I got around to seeing it, I felt like I already knew the whole story.) Come to think of it, I have never seen any of Heath Ledger's movies.

However.

Some of my readers may recall that I am a faithful subscriber to US magazine. Every issue last year seemed to have at least one picture of Heath Ledger, Michelle Williams, and their sweet little girl strolling around Brooklyn. They appeared to be such an adorable couple.

Furthermore, anyone who names their daughter Matilda, after the Roald Dahl book, has to be cool.

My heart goes out to his family.

RIP, Heath.

The first A2 Homicide in 2 Years Happened About 100 Yards From My House.....

and I was sitting by the window, studying, when I heard the gunfire (it turned out to be from an AK847!.)

K and I used to see this guy outside his house when we would walk Lola.

The street was taped off on Thursday, and I got to go into the forensic van and give the detectives a statement. They had a picture hanging up of the deceased.

The cops told me that the robbers knew my neighbor, and wanted to take his drugs and $$$.

As of today (4 days later) my neighbor is still "at large."

I have been thriving on the drama. I love it when bizarre and unusual things happen in close proximity to me or someone I know!

I Have Been to Target 3 Times in the Past 24 Hours....

Trying to find the right underwear.

I only mention this underwear quest because the second phase of it was so fruitful. I bought a bunch of stuff to redo the bathroom! Those of you who have visited La Casa De Lolly will agree that our bathroom has always looked, well, shitty (no pun intended, heh.) But OMG it is so cute now! I bought a bright, fun new shower curtain, matching lotion dispenser, new wastebasket, etc. I also framed some Yoshitomo Nara pictures from my 2006 calendar and hung them in there. I am so excited. I seriously wanted to hang out in there after I finished.

Even Mr. Lolly did not have any complaints- at first. It now appears that he does not fully understand the concept of guest towels. It seems that they are interfering with the placement of his bathtowel. Too bad, I say! I advised him to put his towel on top of the toliet before he takes his shower and grab it when he gets out, like I do. He agreed that this was an acceptable compromise, but not before informing me that if I want to live in a display house I can move to Ikea.
